Watercolor Painting

This course is designed especially for beginners and those who have tried painting and would like additional instruction. You will learn all fundamentals required through demonstration and practice. You will paint from your own pictures or from those supplied by the instructor. In addition, the instructor will provide individual critiques of your painted work.  

NOTE: Each student is responsible for his/her own supplies.

 Instruction by local artist, Jean Wood. Jean attended Layton School of Art and the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. She has also taken lessons with Helen Klebsadel, nationally known artist and John Parsons, well-known local artist.

Supply List:

  • Notebook, pens / pencils for taking notes.

  • Tote or gym bag, large enough to carry all your supplies

  • Large, clean plastic containers. One each of pint and quart size.

  • Gum eraser

  • #2 pencils for drawing. At least 3.

  • Roll of white paper towels and box of tissues

  • Desk stapler and box of regular Swingline staples

  • Disposable foam plates. One package flat and one package with dividers

  • Large 2” or 3” synthetic filament brush - Get the cheapest you can find.

  • Spray bottle - An empty Windex bottle is excellent.

  • Small hair dryer, if you have one.

  • Cotman brand watercolors, in tubes: Permanent Rose, Turquoise, Cad. red medium hue, Ultramarine blue, Cad. yellow hue, Burnt sienna, Burnt umber, Alizarin red, orange, purple.

  • Watercolor brushes -  Round - size 4, 8 and 12

  • Flat - 1/4 inch, 1 inch

  • Watercolor block paper - 16” x 20”, 140# weight.

  • Painting board - 18” x 24”

Care to Read

Workshop 1: Understanding Early Language and Literacy Development. 

Have fun with books and take away ideas to share with children at home, in a child-care or home-care setting. Light snacks provided. Each participant takes home a children’s book. This workshop qualifies for 3 CE hours.

Soap Making

Participants will make and take a variety of fragranced and decorated soaps. Makes a great gift. Ages 10 and up. Ages 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.  Limit of 20.
